Sunrise is a voluntary and comprehensive outpatient treatment program for substance use disorders (i.e. alcohol and other drugs). The majority of care provided to patients at Sunrise is on a non-intensive level with a focus on individual counseling.
In addition to providing counseling services, the clinical staff at Sunrise are all capable of providing basic case management and crisis intervention care, too. For patients with more significant social needs, Sunrise does separately employ case managers to provide that level of assistance.
Sunrise believes that success in long-term recovery is best achieved by encouraging our patients to establish healthy relationships in their communities with recovery groups, sponsors and other peer supports. Though Sunrise does not specifically define the length of our treatment program, the goal is for our patients to eventually feel safe, confident and prepared to maintain their recovery without our clinical and medical support. Good provider relationships and other recovery community engagement and support is critical to guarding against the life-long vulnerabilities of this chronic, relapsing and progressive disease.
In addition to the standard clinical services, Sunrise is also able to provide care to our patients with co-occurring mental health concerns as well as general medical services for those patients with simple acute and chronic physical health issues that are between providers.
Sunrise is very experienced in providing care to patients who are pregnant and pursuing treatment, as well as for patients who become pregnant while in medication-assisted treatment and recovery.
For those needing or wanting additional support on their road to recovery, Sunrise does provide an intensive outpatient level of care that adds extended group sessions to the individual counseling experience. We also have a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Portsmouth along with supportive housing.
Not at all. Sunrise Treatment Center is exclusively an outpatient program, which means you never have to leave your home, your family, or your daily routine to get the care you need. You come in for your scheduled appointments, whether that's counseling sessions, medication management, or group programming, and then you go home. This model is intentional. We believe that real recovery happens in real life, and staying connected to your family, your job, and your community is often part of what makes treatment work.
No, and this is an important misconception we want to clear up. You don't have to be in crisis to reach out. We work with people at every point on the spectrum: someone who's just starting to recognize that their substance use has become a problem, someone in active addiction who's ready to make a change, and someone who has been in recovery for years but wants continued support and relapse prevention. Wherever you are right now, there's a place for you here.
We will not turn you away. Sunrise operates a Sliding Fee Discount Program, which adjusts your costs based on your income and household size, so you only pay what you can reasonably afford. Our policy is straightforward on this: no one is refused care because they can't pay. If you're unsure whether you qualify or what your out-of-pocket costs would look like, just ask when you call. Our team will walk you through the options without pressure.
Most likely, yes. We accept Ohio Medicaid, Medicare, and a wide range of private commercial insurance plans, including Anthem, Humana, and United Healthcare, among others. Before your treatment begins, our admissions team will contact your insurer directly to verify your specific benefits, so you know exactly what's covered before you walk through the door. You won't be left guessing.
Yes, always. We go over all financial details, including any co-pays, deductibles, or out-of-pocket costs, before your admission. If you're paying out of pocket without insurance, we use transparent, fixed pricing so there are no surprises. Our goal is to make sure cost is never a reason someone delays getting help.
Yes, and that's by design. Our standard Outpatient Program and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are built specifically for people who have jobs, classes, and family responsibilities to maintain. Treatment should fit into your life, not replace it. We'll work with you to find a schedule that doesn't force you to choose between getting help and keeping everything else together.
It depends on the level of care that's right for you, which we determine together during your intake assessment. Standard outpatient care typically involves one individual counseling session per week, which runs about an hour. If you're enrolled in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), you can expect roughly nine or more hours of structured programming per week, spread across several days. Some patients start in IOP and step down to standard outpatient as they progress, and it's a flexible structure that adjusts with you.
It's genuinely personalized. Every patient at Sunrise receives an individualized treatment plan developed specifically around their clinical picture, personal goals, and how they're progressing over time. There's no single script we follow. Your counselor gets to know you, your history, and what's actually driving your substance use, and the plan is built from there. As you grow and change in recovery, your plan evolves with you.
We'll help you get there. While Sunrise specializes in outpatient treatment, we recognize that some patients need a higher level of care, including inpatient or residential treatment. If that's what you need, we won't simply send you away with a phone number. We maintain established referral relationships with appropriate facilities and will coordinate that transition directly so you're not left figuring it out on your own. Getting you the right level of care is more important to us than keeping you in our program.
